Binge Disorder Treatment
Binge Disorder is characterized by recurrent binge eating episodes followed by feelings of embarrassment, loss of control and depression. There are no compensatory methods (e.g. vomiting, excessive exercise, misuse of diuretics or laxatives, fasting) like in Bulimia Nervosa or Anorexia. The person experiences severe distress about weight gain and is usually overweight. Some have repeatedly tried to control their food intake without success while some have given up trying.
The most effective treatment for Binge Disorder is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Schema Therapy has been found to be highly helpful when sufferers also present long standing personality disorders.
